CONCRETE PAVING

Concrete Paving & Curb Construction

Concrete is less commonly used for paving roads and parking lots, and is generally seen in new paving projects for sidewalks, curbs, aprons, and entryways to commercial establishments. Ohio Paving & Construction, as concrete paving contractors, will find the most effective team for your concrete construction project. See our portfolio for photos and more information concerning concrete paving projects we've completed in the Cleveland area.

Concrete cement is made up of Portland cement, water, and an aggregate, such as sand, gravel or crushed stone. Through a chemical reaction called hydration, the paste transforms into the strong durable material we know as concrete, capable of structuring cost-efficient parking lots, commercial and residential buildings, sidewalks, bridges, roads and skyscrapers. Concrete Contractor uses a careful measurement of the water used in the hydration reaction to deliver parking lots best-equipped to withstand the temperature variation that erodes the quality of a concrete parking lot over time.

ADDRESS

A new pavement installation process begins with a base aggregate, such as gravel, with a layer of finer gravel above. This is known as the "sub-base." Once we secure and mix the concrete cement from our cement company, the concrete cement is distributed, our commercial contractors use a heavy roller or other equipment to compact the concrete within the sub-base and smooth the surface. The most popular depths for a concrete parking lot in the Cleveland, Ohio area is 4" or 6", chosen by a determination of the expected traffic's net weight, drainage quality, and temperature variation that the parking lot will endure. Concrete parking lots and other products are generally installed in joints or slabs to help preserve the aesthetic appeal of concrete. As it naturally shrinks and cracks, concrete joints encourage the cracking to occur along those lines, therefore concealing the appearance of cracking. A concrete parking lot with structural damage on the surface does not need to be replaced; instead, Ohio Paving and Construction can repair the concrete slab with additional concrete or remove the joint and replace it with a new joint.

Concrete or Asphalt?

While asphalt tends to be cheaper per square foot, concrete tends to require less maintenance over time. However, asphalt is usually cheaper than concrete to maintain when an issue does arise. At Ohio Paving and Construction, we understand that no matter which material you choose, its lifespan will be directly impacted by the strength of the foundation underneath. That's why companies like Nestle in Solon, Ohio chose us to construct their parking lot expansion in 2015.

It is important to note that while these prices are accurate characterizations of the costs of new asphalt paving jobs, there are additional variable costs which are assessed in a case-by-case basis. Therefore, determining the price of laying new concrete paving is not as simple as calculating the square footage of the area and multiplying with the associated figure listed above. Varying costs include:

  • The distance of the job site from our crew.
  • The state of the land and/or sub-base where the asphalt might be laid.
  • The amount of time/effort is necessary for cleaning.

Concrete Curb Construction

Curb construction is sometimes a necessary component of a resurfacing job when parking lot elevation has changed, or if the natural wear and tear of weather against concrete tarnishes the image of your business. A proper curb communicates a sense of professionalism and care to individuals walking towards an establishment. Functionally, curbs are useful to prevent moving vehicles from making contact with a building, preventing costly accidents from occurring. This function also offers security to pedestrians. Curbs can also be built as part of a landscaping section of a parking lot, usually to separate rows of spaces or simply to develop customer-friendly aesthetics. First, a wooden mold is built around the area, and sprayed with a clear coat or WD-40 to prevent sticking. Then, the concrete is mixed with water to properly activate the mix, and poured carefully into the mold to form the intended shape. The wooden mold is eventually removed using standard hand tools after the concrete has had enough curing time to prevent distortion by gravity, and then carefully smoothed using a trowel to add the aesthetic appeal our customers want. Ohio Paving & Construction offers curb construction services to all businesses and establishments in the Northeast Ohio area. Sidewalk Construction

Functioning sidewalks on your property or in a city can add a tremendous amount of curb appeal to your business. They can also serve as a great liability as trip hazards form when the concrete is in disrepair. We install each concrete slab individually, connected by a "joint" to minimize problems created by the eventual and inevitable cracking of the pavement.
